Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year

Dear Leland Families,

It’s been a great opening week with staff!

All of the temporary classrooms are outfitted and complete, and teachers are busy with finishing touches, creating a warm and welcoming learning environment for every one of our 527 students. In this packet, you will find a map of the school. You can help your child locate their new classroom on this map in advance of the first day of school, but be assured that there will be many people on hand to help them find their way next week. Families will be able to tour the entire building during Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 4th from 5:30-7:30 PM.

This year, we will implement a positive behavior and interventions system (PBIS) throughout the building and school grounds. A copy of the COMET EXPECTATIONS are included in this packet. LPS staff will be providing explicit instruction for every student in the first days of school, and a recognition system to provide positive reinforcement of these expected behaviors will be implemented. Don’t be surprised if your child comes home talking about a “learning passport” or earning a “COMET ticket” for a chance to be entered in a weekly drawing during the first days of school.
A new process for drop-off and pick-up will be in place on Tuesday morning. It is important that your review the new drop-off and pick-up procedures included in this packet. Our staff is prepared to help you navigate these new procedures in the opening days of school, and I am confident that it will be running like clockwork after a few days of practice.
Proud to be a Comet,

Jeanne Gross
